DEFEND ANIMALS

Change starts in your campus.

Animal exploitation is a global problem.

Change starts with you.

Our vision is the abolition of speciesism and exploitation of human and nonhuman animals.

“I found the existing vegan groups at UT Austin lacked activism events. However, ASAP emerged as a dynamic force, growing activism while the other club became inactive. They trained and empowered me to become an activist. Thanks to ASAP’s support, I secured a job in animal advocacy, utilizing my PR background to make a full-time impact for animals. As an LGBTQ individual, I also valued ASAP’s welcoming and inclusive environment.”

Zack, UT Austin

"When I do outreach with the TV, wearing the mask, I feel like I’m actually taking one off. It’s when I feel most like my true self. I get to speak my mind, and, to my surprise, that’s when I get to see the best in other people too. ASAP has given me the opportunity to meaningfully change the lives of my fellow students and the animals they unfortunately harm. We talked to over 500 of our peers this semester. Not only do we have animal rights conversations, but this system has allowed us existing ASAP students to help train many more new ASAP students."

Ryan, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Having access to Canva and the fact that the ASAP team replies with lightning speed means that when one of us has an idea for how to help animals, we can put it into action immediately. However, what has had the biggest impact on me is the emotional support. It is not prestigious to be a vegan on campus. It would be easy to feel like we are silly kids focusing on an emotional issue in a sea of "serious professionals." The ASAP team's words of encouragement, resharing of our posts, and investment in our ideas reminds me that we are dealing with an issue of massive social importance. We are at a world-class university where a problem of global importance is not talked about. The ASAP Team's passion reminds me we can change that."

Jessica, University of Chicago

"Last spring, Dr. Harsini gave a lecture to Harvard students during the Food Transformation Course, about his path to starting ASAP and about the problem of animal suffering. It was one of the first times I had heard someone in a position of authority & credibility explicitly speak about violence against animals and its implication for humanity's ability to progress. He asked what has become one of the most influential questions in my studies: what does it mean for us as a species to look at the way we treat animals and allow that cruelty to continue? I think students are disturbed by animal suffering, experience much dissonance about it, and are looking for opportunities to process that deep discomfort. ASAP is meeting this need, and is tapping into immense potential for positive change for animals (human and non-human alike). It will be a privilege and joy to work with Dr. Harsini and ASAP this upcoming year to build a lasting community of animal advocates in Harvard."

Lena, Harvard

“There is very little chance that I would have spent the same amount of time on advocacy if I had not been a part of ASAP. I spent 10+ hours each week tabling and postering during the semester in addition to the other events we did, and I likely would have done little to no activism due to not having the support or structure that ASAP allows.”

Joey, The Ohio State University

"ASAP has helped me come out of my shell through speaking up in outreach events. I had no experience as an animal advocate before joining ASAP, but this experience of running the chapter at UNT has helped me feel more comfortable talking about animal rights issues!"

Sylvia, University of North Texas

“As far as I know, there has never been this kind of animal rights activism on campus before we started the ASAP chapter. I believe a majority of students on campus now have at least seen our tables while walking to classes. With weekly outreach events, we've had hundreds of conversations with folks on campus during this semester. Before we started ASAP, there was basically no animal rights advocacy going on at UPenn.”

Karan, University of Pennsylvania

"Working with ASAP has inspired me to take action and given me the confidence to get out there and educate my peers on campus about the often overlooked social issue that is animal rights."

Ana, Texas State University

“As a PhD student in math at Harvard, I was introduced to ASAP during Dr. Harsini’s lectures at Harvard and MIT. ASAP has been a tremendous source of motivation for animal activists in Boston, including myself. Through their organized and effective animal advocacy, which includes a range of outreach and educational events, I am thrilled to be part of creating positive change at Harvard.”

David, Harvard

“Discovering Faraz through social media was a turning point for me. I was so impressed that I invited him to speak for the MIT vegan club, which I had recently revived after the previous group became inactive. ASAP’s talk sparked a wave of new vegans and rekindled the fire within current advocates. Inspired by ASAP’s mission to prevent animal rights groups from fading away, I’m now launching an ASAP chapter at MIT. Our goal is to create a strong community through impactful outreach and educational events, and work with the dining halls to make our campus 50% plant-based within two years.”

Tim, MIT

"Meeting Faraz during animal activism in NYC was a remarkable moment that changed the course of my life. Through our connection, Faraz recognized and appreciated my outreach skills, and he extended an opportunity for me to join the team at ASAP. It fills my heart with joy to know that my passion and abilities are valued, and that I have the privilege of working alongside like-minded individuals who share a deep commitment to animal liberation."
